Let’s be honest, no one enjoys wash day. There’s nothing worse than putting time and energy into washing, detangling, conditioning, and styling, only to have your natural curls fall flat or get frizzy the next day. In this blogpost, we’ll break down 4 tips that will make your curls last longer after wash day.
First things first, reset those curls! Adding a clarifying shampoo into your wash routine is important to remove product buildup. If build up is present it will be harder to truly cleanse and for products and water to penetrate your hair. If you need to clarify, your hair might look limp and dull. Use a clarifying shampoo or a detoxifying mask to create a clean canvas for styling your natural curls.
The more water you have in your hair when you style, the more your products will actually melt into your hair. This will prevent your natural curls from feeling crunchy, ensure no frizz, even product distribution, and add shine! We recommend applying your products right in the shower while your hair is still sopping wet. Don’t be afraid to add more water as you go either!
Sectioning the hair for styling will give your natural curls more definition. Start from the back and work your way up to the top and the sides. Grab 1-2″ sections and rake your product through your natural curls with your hands or a detangling brush.
If you want 3-4 days out of your wash day, you need to use a gel or foam. These will create a cast around your curls, preserving them and helping them to hold their shape. This will give you more days between washes and minimal frizz! If your curls feel a little too stiff after drying, you can use a dime-size amount of hair oil and scrunch your curls until they are soft.
