Dry hair is mostly caused by heat styling, chemical services and washing too frequently. When your hair becomes dry, it becomes hard to manage. Leaving dry hair untreated can lead to breakage and damage, and being unhappy with your hair. The following top 5 products for dry hair will nourish your hair and leave you feeling better than ever.
It all starts with a shampoo. Shampoos are meant to clean oil and dirt from our scalp and hair strands. Sometimes shampoo formulas are too strong or overly cleansing for our individual needs. Combining this with toxic ingredients like sulphates, silicones, phthalates, and petrochemicals causes all of our natural oils to be washed away, leaving our hair dry and unhealthy. Try washing your hair every third day with cool water and a gentle, yet cleansing shampoo. Choosing a shampoo that will remove build up and restore your hair is the first step to hydration.
Pro Advice – My favorite shampoo is “Shampoo” by Reverie. It’s packed with amino acids and essential oils that leave my hair feeling cleansed and nourished. This lathering formula removes dirt and product without stripping away moisture. Works wonderfully in all hair textures, from fine to thick , this shampoo will leave you cleansed and nourished.
Conditioning after you shampoo is essential to having healthy hair. Conditioners balance the pH level and smooth our hair cuticle. A smooth hair cuticle helps seal moisture into hair and prevents breakage. Many clients find conditioners leave their hair too oily or weighed down. However, skipping a conditioner prevents your hair from receiving all the amazing benefits of a conditioner! Not only great for detangling, many conditioners offer UV protection, frizz prevention, curl definition and increase volume. If you are struggling to find the perfect conditioner for your hair, email me here. Based of your hair type and texture, I’m sure I can find a perfect option for you.
A routine deep conditioning treatment adds moisture and gives your hair the extra boost it needs. No matter what your hair type- straight, curly, wavy, fine, medium or thick, we can all benefit from a deep conditioning treatment. Hair simply can not be healthy without moisture and your split ends will continue to split without it. Starting a weekly treatment routine is easy to do. Simply replace your conditioner with a treatment once a week. Apply to your midshaft and ends, avoid your scalp and root areas. Using a wide tooth comb, brush through your hair and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
Pro Advice- A deep conditioner should not leave your hair oily and weighed down. There are plenty of options for all hair types. My go to treatment is the Kavella Recovery Mask. Free of animal derived ingredients, parabens, PEGS, artificial colors and synthetic fragrance, this treatment is the perfect balance of protein and moisture. Check it out here.
After shampooing and conditioning, towel dry your hair and apply a leave in protecting cream. As the days go by we put our hair through a lot. In between washes, we heat style, brush, throw up a ponytail, wear a hat, and restyle over again. A leave in product will help protect your hair during everyday routines, and keep moisture locked in. Not only will this step help reduce frizz, but many leave in formulas have heat protecting benefits as well. Simply apply to wet hair before styling.
Pro Advice- For medium to thick hair, I recommend Milk by Reverie. With protecting and moisturizing ingredients, plus 16 essential oils, this leave in is super hydrating. Apply 1-2 pumps to your midshafts and ends, before any styling products. Try it here. For Fine to medium hair, I recommend combining a styling and nourishing product. This will give you protecting and healing benefits without any added weight. Rake by Reverie offers lightweight styling hold while conditioning the hair.
We all have naturally occurring hair oils that help nourish and protect our hair. Brushing your hair regularly helps distribute these oils throughout your hair. For extra dry ends, a hair oil can help add extra shine, reduce frizz and strengthen hair. Since water and oil repel each other, it’s best to apply a hair oil to dry hair at bedtime. This allows the product to fully absorb while you sleep, and make for a frizz free morning.
Pro Advice- Apply 1-3 drops of Ever Recovery Oil to ends of hair at bedtime. May be used every night for intense repair, or once a week as your weekly treatment. Also, the perfect solution for hair extensions! Formulated with sustainably derived oils and designed to seal, coat and smooth.
I wish you much hydration and healthy hair!
