Ever wonder what we’re doing back there when we’re toning your hair after a highlighting service? Toning uses demi-permanent color on damp hair to neutralize or enhance the tones of your highlights. It also helps to create a seamless blend between your natural color and your highlights. Most toners will last for 4-6 weeks. Read on to see how to make your toner last longer!
Waiting at least 72 hours after your color service is one of the best things you can do to make your toner last longer. It takes at least this long for your hair’s cuticle to close down, locking in your toner. Washing before your hair’s cuticle has time to close can literally wash your new highlight color right down the drain!
Using the right product is crucial in to make your toner last longer. You just invested $$ in your hair, so make sure you’re using the right shampoo to maintain it! Shampoos with lower quality ingredients strip out toner quickly, so check out Innersense’s Color Awakening Hairbath or Reverie’s Shampoo if you want your toner to last!
No matter what, all hair color fades. With each wash, pigments will leave your hair and eventually will expose brassy tones. Washing less can drastically make your toner last longer. We recommend washing every 3-6 days with a color safe shampoo and cooler water – it truly makes a difference! Add a dry shampoo to your routine if you feel like your roots are getting greasy; that way you can push through at least another day!
